I suppose it is one of the reasons that I do this blog. Jendi, I share your love for the Johannesminne image and recently bought an antique slide of it that was used in teaching art history to women at Smith College. This kind of image were actually created for women, not men, to contemplate. Most if not all of the Johannesminne statues were created for convents and nunneries.Kittredge Cherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02617858676733169316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29680163.post-81638887515573362802013-02-10T07:17:03.626-08:002013-02-10T07:17:03.626-08:00Thank you for this lovely compendium of images. A ...Thank you for this lovely compendium of images. A picture of the Johannesminne statue was very dear to me during my college years when I began my conversion journey. I didn't know why it called to me so profoundly, but it did and still does -- perhaps because images of male-male tenderness and vulnerability are so rare in our culture.Jendihttp://www.jendireiter.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29680163.post-12673385258764232852012-12-30T17:48:46.431-08:002012-12-30T17:48:46.431-08:00I am well aware of the theory that Lazarus was the...I am well aware of the theory that Lazarus was the Beloved of Jesus, and wrote about it at these links:

Lazarus: Jesus’ beloved disciple?
http://jesusinlove.blogspot.com/2011/12/lazarus-jesus-beloved-disciple.html

Seeking the “naked young man” of Mark’s gospel
http://www.jesusinlove.blogspot.com/2012/12/seeking-naked-young-man-of-marks-gospel.html

Thanks, Wrulf, for sharing the actual text of the Secret Gospel of Mark and taking time to write your comment. There are some questions about the authenticity of Secret Mark, and church tradition usually identifies John as the Beloved, but we may never know for sure the name of the man whom Jesus loved.Kittredge Cherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02617858676733169316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29680163.post-7660488134409982922012-12-30T17:24:05.269-08:002012-12-30T17:24:05.269-08:00The Secret Gospel Of Mark

There was one woman there whose brother had died.
She came and prostrated herself before Jesus and spoke to him, “Son of David,
pity me!” But the disciples rebuked her. And Jesus becoming angered, went with her to the garden where the tomb was.
And immediately a great cry was heard from the tomb, and Jesus, going toward
it rolled away the stone from the entrance to the tomb. And going in immediately
where the young man was, he stretched out a hand and raised him up, holding
his hand. Then, the man looked at him and loved him and he began to call him
to his side, that he might be with him. And going from the tomb, they went to the
house of the young man. For he was rich. And after six days, Jesus instructed
him. And when it was late, the young man went to him. He had put a linen
around his naked body, and he remained with him through that night. For Jesus
taught him the mystery of the kingdom of God.'
